Puzzle Quest 2 Reviews

Infinite Interactive's Puzzle Quest sequel continues to receive praise across the web, with four more favorable reviews surfacing over the past few days.

GameSpot gives it an 8.0/10:
It's appropriate, then, that the best-looking part of Puzzle Quest 2 is also its strongest element--the gem-matching puzzles themselves. Because of the simplified approach to the role-playing half, the puzzles are left to carry the game, and they do so with aplomb. Puzzle Quest 2 is a fun experience that keeps your attention for the 15 or so hours it takes to complete the game (without tackling its many side quests), and despite its RPG-lite approach this time around, it's a game that's easy to recommend.

Kokaku Australia doesn't score it:
Puzzle Quest 2 is not without its flaws, yet it is still a highly addictive little .em' of a sequel that will suck more than a few hours out of you. If you liked the first one, you should definitely pick it up on your platform of choice and support Aussie developers!

Rock, Paper, Shotgun doesn't score it, either:
It's ridiculous that after playing it for days, just repeating those same actions again and again, that I know as soon as I'm done writing this I'll go back and play some more. I'm quite certain what it offers can't justify the interest I have in playing it. But I shall not stop. I don't want to stop. I want to repeat that action. And repeat that action. And repeat that action. And I'm almost disinterested in whether the context changes.

And Guardian.co.uk gives it a 4/5:
Veterans will feel right at home when they start. As before, you get to choose your character class from standard fantasy templates barbarian, sorcerer etc before heading out into the world. This time though the action is viewed much closer in, with your character given much greater flexibility to explore the villages, caves and dungeons that make up a lot of the world. The "match-3" gameplay has been tweaked too. Players still need to match the correct colour of jewels to earn the powers needed to cast spells Bejewled players will know what to expect but this time you get access to weapons too. These can be equipped and sparingly used in battle if you match the correct number of gauntlet "jewels" and add another layer of strategy to proceedings. The same method works with general items too and there is undoubtedly more potential to customise your character this time round.
