DeathSpank Reviews

Several more reviews for Hothead's DeathSpank have reached the web over the past 24 hours, and they're all pretty favorable.

GameSpot starts us off with an 8.0/10:
A strong sense of humor is the backbone for this quirky adventure, but there is more to this game than a few silly jokes. The combat is simple, but there are so many spells and items to play around with that it stays consistently entertaining. And the colorful visuals and infectious soundtrack add to the experience. A few truncated elements do serve as roadblocks, though. The stripped cooperative play adds little to the quest, and you don't have much say in how your character levels up. But DeathSpank is so charming and endearing that it's easy to lose hours to this quest trying to obtain another ancient artifact. =

NowGamer gives it an 8.2/10:
Whether DeathSpank will be judged a success by either the RPG fraternity, or the stoics of the holy order of point and click, will largely depend on either stalwarts' sensibilities toward the passions of the other. But and this is the important bit fans of both? Prepare to go nuts.

Game Revolution gives it an "A-":
...because DeathSpank isn't some weenie little diversion; it's a full-blown, long RPG with a huge overland map. Which at 1200 MS Points (or $15) is more bang for your buck than just about any other title out there. I find it very easy to recommend - a clear bargain and a great blow for gamer justice!

Associated Content doesn't provide a score:
If anything would detract from this game it would be the annoying multiple-choice dialogs and long text interactions. An action RPG is about action, right? Anything that doesn't involve moving through the game and killing your way to kingdom come really slows the flow of the game. While the scenery of the game is adequate it also is very hard to see all that lovely loot at times causing one to do the loot spin dance periodically to get everything up! Loot items in this game are very small and it is very easy to accidentally shoot a barrel accidentally and lose the goods under a tree.

gamrReview gives it an 8.0/10:
Deathspank was so close to being the whole package, but it feels like the gameplay just can't hold up to the visual presentation and humor of the story. If you don't mind a simple combat system that will largely leave you button mashing, then this is definitely a game you should look at, and let the power of the purple thong be with you.

And then we have a quick look video at Giant Bomb and a score of 8.0/10 in GameTrailers' video review.
