Deus Ex: Human Revolution Sports Over 200,000 Lines of Dialogue

If you're at all worried that Eidos Montreal's Deus Ex: Human Revolution is going to be more action than substance, this news from VideoGamer should help to convince you otherwise. For some perspective, Mass Effect 2 featured 31,000 lines of dialogue:
"The voice recording, with all the characters we have in the game, is just amazing," producer David Anfossi told VideoGamer.com at E3. "We have more than... I think it's more than 200,000 lines."

The first two Deus Ex games, developed by Ion Storm and published by Eidos at the turn of the Millenium, were known for their intelligent, carefully-crafted dialogue - as well as for their varied gameplay. According to lead designer Jean-François Dugas, the team at Montreal are now striving to live up to this legacy.

"There's no magic recipe," said Dugas. "The only thing we have is a lead writer who's very dedicated to her job, and she's working damn hard. She reviews everything and she's nit-picky."

The lead writer in question is Mary Demarle, a veteran game-scribe whose past work includes the Myst series and Splinter Cell: Conviction. Human Evolution is set prior to the events of the first two Deus Ex games, telling the story of Adam Jensen - a security guard who receives mechanical upgrades, against his will, after the company he works for is attacked.
