The guys at Hooked Gamers have gotten their hands on a few screenshots depicting the character interface and codex menus in Mass Effect 2. The most promising element I see here is that armor has been broken out into five separate pieces and the slotted items appear to be unique (rather than just a title with a Roman numeral tacked on).  The equipment system was one of my biggest complaints in the first Mass Effect.
