Gyromancer Reviews

A couple of online reviews for Square Enix and PopCap's newly released puzzle/RPG Gyromancer made their way to the Internet this weekend.

First up is TeamXbox with a score of 8.8/10:
While Gyromancer might have a familiar taste about it, especially to those out there already familiar with the Puzzle Quest games, but that doesn't make it any less flavorful. PopCap and Square Enix have managed to find just the right amount to take from each of their strengths to make a game that's easily accessible and instantly addictive. It may not have the depth you'd think in an RPG title or the fast pace of your run-of-the-mill puzzler, but mix the two together and, much like the peanut butter cup, you've got something that infinitely more tasty than the sum of its parts.

Then we have RPGamer with a score of 2.5/5:
Players may find themselves coming into Gyromancer expecting Puzzle Quest and instead get Galactrix, for better or for worse. While the game has a lot of potential and is shiny on the surface, it lacks the depth and accessibility that prior puzzle-bending titles have offered and serves up a game that's ultimately a Bejeweled Twist variant done up pretty. Though the compatibility issues with the PC version will hopefully be fixed in short order, the game still falls particularly short of expectations and should be approached with its shortcomings in mind. That being said, if Square-Enix and Popcap choose to make a sequel addressing some of these issues, it would certainly be a solid purchase.
