Feeling connected to your character is one of the most important aspects of any RPG, but Piranha Bytes' game feels rough around the edges in so many areas. Armour and clothing are too scarce, the melee combat only feels effective at the higher levels and there could have been more variety in the skill sets.

Risen's quests and branching storyline can be absorbing for a while, but just about everything else lets the game down.
