Fallout 3: The Ending That Would Not Be

Both UGO and MTV Multiplayer have coverage up of Emil Pagliarulo's "Evolving Game Design" GDC presentation, in which the designer reveals a Fallout 3 ending that the team scrapped.
Fallout 3 almost concluded with your hero riding in the head of a towering robot. Alongside a restored Rivet City aircraft carrier, the two would join forces for a massive dénouement.

Emil Pagliarulo, Lead Designer on Fallout 3, spilled the beans on this pipe dream during his session at GDC, tongue-twistingly titled (Evolving Game Design: Today and Tomorrow, Eastern and Western Game Design.) Along with Goichi Suda a.k.a. SUDA51 (No More Heroes, Killer 7) and Fumito Ueda (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus), Emil discussed games as art, the development process, and, in the case of Fallout's finale, a game's transition from on paper to on store shelves.

The abandoned conclusion actually wasn't much different than the current one click away if you haven't completed Fallout 3 yet. Liberty Prime would have still been the aforementioned robot, but five times larger; the scale of the battle would have been symmetrically increased with it.

Obviously, it got axed, and according to Pagliarulo, for good reason.
