Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures Visit Report

RPG Vault has posted a two-page report of their recent visit to Funcom's headquarters in Norway to check out the latest build of Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures.
Another part of the day brought a look at mounted combat. After reaching level 40, characters will be able to fight from horseback; several types will be available, although I didn't hear specifically whether and how they will differ aside from visually. If you pre-order from certain retailers, you'll receive a larger, more lumbering alternative, either a mammoth or a war rhino. Armor will be pre-set; paperdoll capability is under consideration, but won't be in for launch. The character and mount will operate with a shared health pool; i.e. when one dies, so will the other.

Combat in Age of Conan will also incorporate raiding. This will be part of the elder game for characters that have attained level 80. At the moment, it looks like the game will launch with around 19 encounters spread among eight dungeons. Parties will consist of four groups, a total of up to 24 characters. The time to finish them will average two to three hours, although some will fall outside this range. Access will be on a system with three tiers. You'll have to beat at least one on the first to advance to the second, where full completion will be required before you can move higher. A time gate scheme will be implemented to help address camping. Having defeated a particular raid, a character will probably be locked out from trying it again for a week.
