US Videogame Sales Numbers Hit $18 Billion

A final wrap report for a year of strong titles and sales, as Next Generation reports the video game industry hit $17.9 billion in the US, 43% up from last year.
NPD analyst Anita Frazier stated, "While I wouldn't count on similar growth in 2008, I would expect to see 2008 increase over 2007, with more growth (proportionately) coming from software sales. While we will continue to see strong hardware sales, particularly if prices come down again, the spotlight now turns from hardware to software."

Total videogame software sales were $8.64 billion for the year, an increase of 34 percent.

The top-selling piece of software for 2007 was September 2007's Halo 3 for Xbox 360, selling 4.82 million in the US alone. The Halo 3 juggernaut was followed closely by February 2007's Wii Play w/ Remote, which sold 4.12 million.
None of the top 10 sellers were PC titles (or PS3 titles... three PS2 titles, though). It was hinted at earlier that only a handful of titles went over 100k on the PC, and only WoW's expansion went over a million. I'd like to see some PC sales numbers - they might not paint the same, positive picture.
