BioShock Reviews

Several more enthusiastic BioShock reviews bring us into the new week. The first is at Netjak with an overall score of 9.7/10:
BioShock is definitely worth a purchase. There simply isn't a better experience to be had on the PC. Even if you don't have a PC that can run BioShock, consider picking up the Xbox 360 version. But don't fool yourself; BioShock isn't the greatest shooter of all time. Go in knowing that and you'll absolutely love it. BioShock still has its flaws, but they pale in comparison to the entire package.

The second is at Gamer's Hell with an overall score of 9.3/10:
My advice: Yes, go buy this game, you'll have a wonderful time with it, but be sure to savour it there is no multiplayer (I know some of you find that unbelievable), but the quality of the single player is worth the sacrifice a million times over, anyway, isn't it about time we had a decent shooter that doesn't sell itself on multiplayer? And the replay value will be determined only by your attitude to replaying linear storylines.

The third is at Game Chronicles with a perfect score of 10/10:
BioShock is a great and wondrous adventure told through an imaginative story combining several genres to add appeal and flavor for a truly fun game.

The fourth is at Gameguru Mania with a perfect score of 100%:
Overall, BioShock is one of the best games ever made. Turn off the lights, crank up the volume, take your time and enjoy it. It's about the experience not the high score! I can easily say BioShock delivers the most rewarding and adrenaline-filled experience I have ever had with any action game!

The fifth is at Slashdot with a perfect score of 5/5:
Nothing is as it initially appears in Rapture. This moral ambiguity never seems forced, but probably isn't everything the BioShock team hoped it could be. It's very enjoyable to have options, but you're not even making as dramatic a choice as the good and evil options in Knights of the Old Republic. Whether you're a sinner or a saint, you're going to end up at roughly the same place in the end. The great writing and characterization throughout the game stands up much better than any moral overtones.

The sixth is at Boomtown with an overall score of 9/10:
...Bioshock remains a wonderful game in so many ways. The graphics and art direction, the slow unveiling of the story of Rapture's fall, the sheer creepiness of it all, and the gameplay which, quite often, makes almost every shooter until now seem rather dull in comparison.

The seventh is at The Laser with an overall score of "A":
Bioshock's thought-provoking backstory and brilliant design will stay with you long after you're done playing it. This is an incredible game from any perspective, and its cohesive world, brilliant story and immersive gameplay delivers what is an absolutely unforgettable experience.

And the eighth is at DeadAlfs with an overall score of 93%:
People expecting another System Shock game may complain about the omissions of a proper inventory system and the streamlining of item creation and upgrading pales in contrast to the complexity offered by more conventional RPGs, but Bioshock isn't an RPG. It's just a very clever First Person Shooter that everyone - and their mother - should play. The fact that it's charms seem to have captured the world by storm can only be a good thing, though potential sequels are gonna have a damn tough act to follow.
