Overlord Reviews

The new week starts off with three more favorable reviews for Codemasters and Triumph Studios' Overlord. The first is at Gamepyre with an overall score of 84/100:
I thoroughly enjoyed this game. Even when a game is funny it's often raunchy at the same time and that limits the audience. Its rear to find a truly funny and entertaining game, with a teen rating, that can be enjoyed by almost anyone. There is violence and killing, however in cartoon, so it is not for small kids. I love this game. Replay is high with different out comes depending on your actions; if you kill the villages they will not be there to raise the sheep that the Overlord can kill for life energy; that is used to make more minions. I'll play it through again this time being very evil to see what happens when you become corrupted. Gameplay stays fresh and the laughs fly fast, the whole way through, keeping you coming back for more. I thought I'd die when I first saw a minion with a pumpkin on his head. When a game is this fun little things like load screens are forgiven and forgotten.

The second is at Gamer 2.0 with an overall score of 8.9/10:
Overall, Overlord is an exciting romp through a twisted fairy-tale land. While it lacks any incredibly difficult challenges, it delivers a laugh-a-minute story that is very well executed. As long as you avoid the admittedly random glitches, you'll come away from Overlord with a great attitude and a desire to play it again just to see the different endings.

And the third is at Killer Betties with an overall score of 3/5:
There are some light RPG elements involved as well. You can upgrade the Overlord's equipment by tossing minions into a forge along with spending gold. The number of minions required to upgrade something to the maximum is quite steep. But you can always make more minions by fighting enemies and acquiring the colored orbs they leave behind. But more interesting is the ability to make choices between good and evil as you progress through the game. The Overlord has a corruption meter, which goes higher when you choose the evil path. So the game does have a bit of replay value because you might want to complete the game once with 0% corruption and again with 100% corruption.
