Red Stone Q&A, Part One

Following today's Red Stone announcement, RPG Vault has posted a two-page Q&A with K2 Network's Marvic Ambata about the upcoming fantasy MMORPG.
Q: Over the course of long-term play, how will character development function? Will players have much choice in this regard?

A: The development of your character mostly follows a traditional MMOG path, but with a few interesting twists. Your character builds his abilities through practice and use. As you kill monsters, you will gain experience points, which will increase your level. Every time you gain a level, you are granted additional skill points to distribute as you wish to increase various character attributes.

One of the distinct aspects of the character development system in Red Stone is the skill distribution system. Each class starts with a basic skill that it can use to damage opponents. When engaged in combat, you generate Skill Points, which are similar to Experience Points. After you gain a certain number determined by your level, you will be able to distribute these points amongst your various skills. Certain skills require various pre-requisites in order to advance them.

The choices are vast in terms of character development. You can choose to focus on one aspect of your skills and drive your character to perfecting them, or you can spread your development across multiple abilities. You can even spread your abilities to a secondary skill set like we were discussing earlier in the case of the Junior Knight vs. Warrior to increase your situational flexibility.
