Vampire: Bloodlines Patches Explained

After a round of confusion about the three different sets of patches for Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, I thought I'd try to make things a little more clear.
  • The v1.2 "official" patch is the last patch released by Activision and Troika Games and should be installed regardless of whether or not you plan on trying out any unofficial patches. Since this is the last patch Troika Games was involved with and the only one that we know is consistent with Troika's original vision, our Bloodlines walkthrough is only based on the game's content up to (and including) v1.2.

  • The long-running "original" unofficial patches have introduced bug fixes and various gameplay additions above and beyond the official v1.2 patch. Originally created by Dan Upright, these patches have since been taken over by Werner Spahl and include a lot of input from the Bloodlines community.

  • The "true" unofficial patches were created by community member Acrimonious to address bugs only. There has been some controversy on the Planet Vampire forums and in our very own forums about whether or not these patches have reused much of Werner's code from his series of "unofficial" patches. As of the time of this news post, these differences have not yet been resolved.

Hopefully that helps clear up the confusion and misconceptions surrounding the game's various patches.
