Of all the fictional kingdoms in Conan's world, it's Aquilonia that fans of the genre know best. Aquilonia is a bastion of vibrancy and civilization, surrounded on all sides by enemies. To the north, strife in the Border Kingdoms and the howling barbarians of Cimmeria represent a continual threat. In the west, beyond the Thunder River, the people of Conan's kingdom are threatened by the savage Picts. The south, however, may hold the greatest threat. While the dark kingdom of Stygia does not directly border Aquilonia, the insidious influence of the decayed but still mighty empire stretches forth Set's scaly hand to crush the younger nation.
