Mage Knight: Apocalypse Interview, Part One

The folks at RPG Vault have published the first portion of a new Mage Knight: Apocalypse interview with senior producer David Georgeson. A bit of what was talked about:
Q: With reference to your earlier comment about character individuality, in what ways can the player customize their physical appearance and their respective abilities?

: Facial features, hair color and style, and other elements can be tweaked on the characters at the time of character creation. Then, through the process of playing the game, the characters pick up different armors and weapons, deciding whether to keep or sell them. If they keep them, then the various pieces will change their appearance greatly over time.

In addition, each piece of armor and every weapon has three open slots that can be imbued with magestone (mana-charged ore found throughout the Mage Knight universe). The different kinds of magestone ore (air, earth, water, fire, holy and unholy), and the order in which they are added to the items change the characteristics of those items and their appearance as well. So, there's really a lot that players can do to customize their appearance as well as the effect of their items.

Of course, there's also experience you gain through combat and completing missions. That unlocks potential skills for you to use as you advance. The more you use any skill, the better you get with it, and the better you get with a skill, the more other skills of that type you will unlock. So, the game rewards your play style with more skills of that kind of play style. If you want more melee skills, then use your melee skills and you'll get more. If you want more spells, then try casting the spells you've got now, and you'll find that more become available. In other words, play the way you want to, and your character will grow accordingly.
