Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows Interview

FileFront has conducted an interview with Midway Games' Josh Sawyer, in which the designer answers three pages of questions about Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows. Here's a snip about weaponry:
Q: What sort of weaponry will be available to the players? Will there be different advantages to different weapons? Will weapons be customizable?

A: Players will be able to access variants from six weapon types: Great Cleave (two-handed swinging weapons), Great Pierce (two-handed piercing weapons), Cleave (shield and one-handed cleaving weapon), Pierce (shield and one-handed thrusting weapon), Magic (wands and other magical channeling devices), and Unarmed (claws, cesti, and other punch-augmenters).

Different weapon types have different advantages, mostly granted through the moves characters can perform with that type. Great Pierce weapons do the most damage of all weapon types, but their strongest attacks target a very narrow area and cover a lot of ground. Cleave weapons do relatively little damage, but Cleave attacks hit a large area and allow the use of a shield, which reduces the damage of incoming attacks.

Each player can use three types of weapons, so it is up to the player to switch types to meet the needs of a situation. And within each type, there are many cosmetic and hundreds of statistical variations.
