In a genre where (immersion) means (the NPCs say thou every now and then,) Matrix begins it with the launcher, which gives you some very computer-ese text about the ZionOS before you log in. Character creation is similarly immersive. Rather than just going to a screen with a half-naked dude rotating around and adjusting sliders, character creation is actually an in-character walkthrough of picking up your redpill and waking him up to the real world. All the usual character customization options are there and it's possible to work with character concepts like (a cool Kung Fu ninja who thinks he's a hero in a Final Fantasy game) and (Shaft) instead of the generic (Fighter.)
