Ancient Elfstones were crafted by the Firstborn in ages past and are scattered throughout Middle-earth. They are assigned to any character deemed worthy. Each character can carry up to four Elfstones at a time. The player does not need to actively use these items as they confer their power automatically. Elfstones are found in one of three states of effectiveness:
Cracked Elfstone Cracked and damaged by war and time, these Elfstones still hold some measure of their former power.
Polished Elfstone These stones come from the Second or Third Age and are rare items of exceptional beauty and filled with Spirit Power.
Ancient Elfstone Ancient stones from the First Age contain the greatest measure of Spirit Power.
