X-Men Legends Interview

RPGVault has conducted an interview with Activision's Blaine Christine and Raven's Dan Edwards & Robert Gee about the soon-to-be-released action RPG, X-Men Legends. One of the questions to whet your appetite:
Q: What kind of combat system have you implemented in X-Men Legends? How important are the player's abilities such as fast reflexes?

A: Combat plays a pivotal role in the game play and players will be pleasantly surprised by the flow and feel of it. Basic combat involves hand to hand fighting moves, allowing the player to execute different attacks based on button sequences similar to those found in side view fighting games. The various heroes also have special moves and abilities that tie in with these attacks through normal button combinations and timing. The mutant abilities of each character can also be performed at any time during these attack sequences with the use of a toggle button that alters the main button functionality.

The player has direct control over one hero at a time, and can instantly switch among any of them with a single button press. The heroes who are not being controlled can also be called in to attack the player's target with the mutant abilities predefined by the player for each hero to execute in such situations. This allows multiple heroes to easily combine their powers for bonus combo damage and experience. Player skill is required to make the most of the abilities of each character and utilize them in way to maximize the effectiveness of the team.
