Vanguard: Saga of Heroes Chat Log

Online Gaming Radio has posted a transcript of an interview they did last month with various members of Sigil Games about the upcoming Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.
Leonai Art: This is one of the questions that I have. My husband is a die-hard, tabletop roleplayer and I'm curious to know exactly how much that influences the game of Vanguard, the actual creation of it.

Brad McQuaid: I think it does, and will, to a significant degree. We're also big D&D fans going way back. I think probably, outside massively multiplayer games, the types of games that are influencing Vanguard and our design and our world are mostly the fantasy novels that we've all enjoyed reading, the D&D and all the other paper and pencil games we've played as well as all the text MUDs we all enjoyed. Bringing back the dungeon crawl, and the commradery in a group, in a party, and working together to overcome odds and get the phat lewts is definitely part of what's planned.

Keith Parkinson: I spend some time doing that way back in the day and actually was on a lot of those teams. From an eccentric standpoint, there's a good bit of it that comes from D&D. A lot of the monsters that everyone's grown up thinking about and knowing have some roots in D&D and we're using those roots. We want people to be familiar with some of the things their seeing, but we want to throw some new stuff at them too, but the old familiarity, we want to bring that through. Put our own spin on it, but definitely have those roots.
