Besides seedy clubs, the game features other recognizable scenarios such as the Santa Monica, California pier. I asked Thaine, my guide through the game, how accurate it was. He explained that anyone familiar with L.A. will recognize where he or she is immediately, but it will be an alternative L.A. In his words, "a Goth-Punk-World of Darkness vision of L.A." From what I saw, that sounds very accurate.
As an example, the character on display was walked into a club called "Confessions", which was supposed to be in an old converted church. Passing a well-endowed woman dressed as a gothic cowgirl and another sporting a schoolgirl outfit several sizes too small, we reached an NPC named Venus. She very suggestively asked if I knew any games we could play. I of course did, but they wanted to continue with the game demonstration and couldn't figure out how to climb into computer monitors to get with incredibly hot girls composed entirely of 1s and 0s.
