Oh My, Goodbye Obi-Wan

This is sad. From VideoGamespot comes the deflating news that the sequel to Jedi Knight and Dark Forces is now cancelled for the PC. This is really too bad, as I was totally looking forward to that game; both Jedi Knight and DF were my two favorite 1st-person action games.

The only reason they would have scrapped it is because it wasn't holding up to their standards (which seriously have been really low for them anyway the last few years). It just makes me wonder... of all companies capable of practically demanding great talent, Lucasarts should be right near the top. Well it would have been different if I was designer. Here's a chip off the article, from Lucasarts:

"Following an extensive review of the project and a great deal of deliberation, LucasArts Entertainment Company has ceased development of Star Wars: Obi-Wan for the PC. The expected breadth and scope of the Obi-Wan project could not be met given limitations of technology and the company's recently heightened quality standards. LucasArts is now planning to bring the game and its assets to a next-generation console platform. Further announcements will be made in this regard next year.

LucasArts remains fully committed to developing games for the PC platform, as evidenced by its current development alliances with Verant Interactive, BioWare Corporation, and other soon to be announced projects.

We wish to thank our fans for their continued support through this process and assure them that our number one goal is to provide them with high quality, fun games."

I don't blame them for dumping it if it wasn't up to standards, but it jacks me that they couldn't do this game right. Once again, if you wish to read what Gamespot wrote about it (they did after all get the news) moonwalk over to the whole article here.
