SKALD: Against the Black Priory Update #25 - Worldbuilding

The main attraction of the latest Kickstarter update for Scape-IT's old-school RPG SKALD: Against the Black Priory are the two developer blog posts related to the game's lore and worldbuilding. The first one, dedicated to the game's Freymark region, we already had a chance to check out, while the second one focuses on the history of the game's world. Apart from that, the update shares a sample animation that showcases some new environmental effects and directs us to the game's official subreddit. Here are the text parts:

Greetings backers,

Hope you're all doing good! Here in Norway, winter is well and truly here and we're only days away from full winter darkness. Say what you want about this time of year, but it's excellent writing weather.

I finally got to catch up on my worldbuilding for "SKALD: Against the Black Priory" and that felt awesome! I've always wanted the SKALD setting to be bigger that just a single game, and laying down a solid foundation with the worldbuilding is a pretty good way of building a strong universe to play around in.

Here are two lore articles: One is an overview of the history of the setting and the other is a short campaign guide for the region in which the game will be set. Check them out and be sure to give me some feedback: Gloom and Doom

I have gotten in some hours of coding as well. I realized that I really wanted environmental effects and transitions to add a bit of mood to the scenes. Things like weather and darkness works really well with a dark and grim setting like the one I want for SKALD.

New Territory

SKALD is now on Reddit as well! I'm pretty new to Reddit as a platform but it does have a lot of potential for spreading the word about SKALD so I'm very happy to give it a go. The SKALD sub-reddit is (of course) "r/SkaldRPG". I just wrote a post where I invite members to give their thoughts and suggestions on side-quests in RPGs and I would love it if you dropped by and gave your two cents:

Join our discussion on the SKALD sub-Reddit today!

As always, you're all VERY welcome on our Discord as well! If you're a backer, just PM me once you get there and I'll get you a role and the (old) SKALD demo if you wanna give it a go!

Cheers,

AL
