Unknown Realm: The Siege Perilous Kickstarter Campaign Launched

There have been many times over the last 20 years where I have found myself in a fit of nostalgia and yearning for the top-down, turn-based, and 8-bit role-playing games of yore. But I suppose that means that I have to put my money where my mouth is, because this Kickstarter campaign for Unknown Realm: The Siege Perilous seeks to bring us both PC and Commodore 64 (yes, C64) versions of an RPG that will immediately take anyone back to the glorious 1980s.

The project is seeking $65,536 (a perfectly constructed value if I've ever seen one), but they've already surpassed $53,000 with 28 days to go, so I think it's safe to assume that they will smash that goal multiple times over. In case you can't believe what you're reading, check out the trailer:

And if you still aren't a believer, here is the amazingness that is in store for us:
Unknown Realm: The Siege Perilous is a new 8-bit medieval fantasy role-playing game that starts out in the 80's for PC and Commodore 64. It is designed in the spirit of classic RPGs such as Ultima & Bard's Tale. Boasting a size of 16Mbits, it is the largest 8-bit RPG to be made on cartridge ever.

- Open-world, exploration focused
- Turn-Based, Western-style
- Intelligent NPCs
- Big Box RPG physical edition with cloth map, game manuals, etc
- Largest 8-bit RPG on cartridge
- Custom C64 cartridge
- Custom platform for modern systems delivers a true retro experience
- In-game hybrid soundtrack toggles between 8-bit and modern music

Hats off to Stirring Dragon Games. An instant backing decision for me.
