The latest episode of Matt Barton's Matt Chat on YouTube provides us a look at 57 minutes of footage of Risen, the spiritual successor to the Gothic series from German studio Piranha Bytes. Back when the title released, I had high hopes for Piranha Bytes' future, but the two sequels to this title turned out to be largely disappointments. (In fairness, I enjoyed Risen 2's pirate theme and I felt like Risen 3 was a step in the right direction.)
While not perfect (Gothic and its sequel remain the crown jewels of Piranha Bytes' output), Risen was a perfectly enjoyable open world RPG with a nice atmosphere, and Barton seems to agree with my assessment:
