XCOM: Long War Modders Form Studio, Working on New Game

Long War is arguably the most popular mod for XCOM: Enemy Unknown, known for both its heightened difficulty and its expansion of the game's core mechanics and strategic layer, to the point where even XCOM and XCOM 2 developer Jake Solomon would later half-jokingly confess that he considered the original vanilla game to be merely a tutorial for the mod.

And that's why I imagine our readers will be interested to learn that the people behind the Long War mod have launched their own Long War Studios independent videogame company and are working on Terra Invicta, a completely new game. From the blurb on their website, it doesn't sound like they're moving too far from XCOM's territory:

Terra Invicta

Terra Invicta is a grand strategy game in which the player leads the defense of Earth during an alien invasion.

An alien force has arrived in the far reaches of Solar System and begun probing Earth's defenses and building an invasion fleet. The player must assemble a council of scientists, politicians, military leaders and operatives who can unite Earth's squabbling nations with the ultimate goal of taking the fight to the aliens in the high ground of outer space.

According to the studio's new website, Terra Invicta is currently in "pre-Kickstarter development", though we're given no timeframe on when a crowdfunding campaign for the title might launch. Either way, we'll keep an eye on it.
