Fallout 4 Trophies Revealed, Contain Spoilers

Exophase, "a social network for people who love games" that focuses primarily on achievement tracking, has published the list of PlayStation 4 trophies for Fallout 4. Obviously, the list contains spoilers, but it's notable because it strongly hints at the fact that the game will take a faction-focused approach to its storyline.

Three factions have achievements for joining them: the Railroad, a faction dedicated to the defense of androids that was featured in a cameo role in Fallout 3, the Brotherhood of Steel, the technophiliac knightly order that first appeared in the original Fallout, and the Minutemen, a new faction introduced in Fallout 4.

Admittedly, it's also possible to join multiple guilds in the latest chapters of The Elder Scrolls series, so the achievement by itself isn't proof that the game is going to feature multiple different endings based on a chosen faction. That said, the marketing blurbs also hint at the possibility:

Freedom and Liberty!

Do whatever you want in a massive open world with hundreds of locations, characters, and quests. Join multiple factions vying for power or go it alone, the choices are all yours.

Faction-based branching storylines aren't exactly the norm for the series, but in my opinion they worked really well in New Vegas, so I'm excited to see Bethesda's approach. The civil war in Skyrim was an interesting storyline that was marred by poor execution, but it also wasn't the focus of the main storyline, so the lack of focus was understandable.

Bethesda seems to be putting a lot of effort into the presentation of the story in Fallout 4, and I can only hope that's indicative of the effort that's gone into the script writing process.
