CD Projekt CEO Denies Buyout Rumors

I didn't put much stock into DSOGaming's unconfirmed reports of a visit of Electronic Arts representative to CD Projekt RED, supposedly to either publish a title or buy the studio altogether. The insider, who claimed to be CD Projekt employee and offered a payslip as proof, readily admits he or she doesn't know the reasons for the meeting and offers some weak reasons as to why a buyout is the most likely scenario. However, the idea of a buyout seems rather far-fetched in the company's current circumstances, while the alternative, CD Projekt being in talks with a big publisher to get a title published, really doesn't seem newsworthy.

The rumor, however, spread like wildfire and convinced CEO Marcin IwiÅ„ski to send an official statement to Eurogamer, in which he vehemently denies the idea of a buyout and claims the payslip used as proof by the alleged CD Projekt employee was fabricated:

"We usually don't comment on rumours but this one has become quite viral and we think it deserves to be put to bed," said co-founder Marcin Iwinski on behalf of the Board. "We are not talking with anyone regarding selling CD Projekt Red or GOG.com. Period. And the payslip is a fake - it was not issued by our company."

I have to admit, regardless of whether the payslip used as proof was fabricated or not, I'm not sure why a suggestion from an employee that readily admits he or she isn't fully informed has been taken so seriously.
