Rumor: Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel in Development at 2k Australia

I initially decided not to report on this, given I never heard of the site that broke this rumor before, but it spread really quickly and most publications seem to be taking it seriously, enough to convince me to cover it: according to GamePointsNow, a game set between the first and second Borderlands is in development at 2k Australia, and is simply titled Borderlands: The Pre-sequel.

The title is reportedly in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, and is going to feature four new characters, some who previously appeared in minor roles in the other two titles. On top of that, it apparently takes place on a moon, and oxygen will play a role in the gameplay mechanics:

Set on the moon of Elpis and Hyperions ominous H shaped moon base, the game sees Handsome Jack in the days when he was just a humble programmer called John, hunting a powerful alien artefact (what else!!). Players will be able to select one of Jack/Johns four lieutenants to play as in Athena The Gladiator, Wilhelm The Enforcer, Nisha The Lawbringer and Fragtrap, a militarised claptrap..

...

Yes Elpis has reduced gravity (it is a moon after all) so tossing bandits into orbit with a well placed grenade is a sure thing. There's also jetpacks to help you get around the moons surface and outwit your enemies, although this does tie in with another of the games new features to present a whole new challenge for veterans of the series.

Oxygen will play a huge role in the game, in fact it's actually going to be lootable in the form of OX -Kits.This adds a whole new layer to the combat with you requiring to manage your own oxygen levels while battling your foes, although it does lead to the option of shattering an enemies helmet to instantly deprive them of precious O2 and gain an advantage.

Again, it bears repeating that this is a rumor and, as such, should be treated with more of a grain of salt, and on top of that it's coming from a relatively unknown source.

Update: Checking back on GamePointsNow's blog, they appear to have leaked the April list of PS+ free games in the past, so this wouldn't be the first time they leaked something accurate ahead of time.
