Legends of Aethereus Reviews

We have rounded up a few reviews for Legends of Aethereus, ThreeGates Studios' third-person action-RPG, which you might remember thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign.

RPGFan is harsh but hopefully fair, 35%.
Aethereus isn't about the story, the graphics, or the music; it's about gameplay. I won't fault Aethereus for not being something other than what it tries to be, but with questing this anonymous and combat this dysfunctional, I can't recommend it to anyone. The ambitious number of gameplay modes and few nuanced mechanics foretell a potentially exciting future for Three Gates, but even after patches and adjustments, I doubt Legends of Aethereus will be worth playing. There will always be many better options for every kind of gamer. Hopefully this is what lays behind just the first of three portals. May what comes out of the next one be better and brighter.

Cheat Masters' piece still isn't glowing, but the score is much better, 6.5/10.
Legends of Aethereus is a game that is better when played with others, so you may have to either get friends to play with you or wait until this game does get more players online for the 4-player cooperative multiplayer. Until then, you will have to make due with the singleplayer campaign, which may not be to everyone's liking with not enough interesting places to explore and all the grinding necessary to progress through the game. This is a $30 title that is best left for those who really like their RPGs a bit old school, but with a bit of a curve ball as well.

Indie Game Reviewer, 4/5.
WARNING: This game is unforgiving. Upon death you have two choices; Restart level or go back to Nexus (your home town.) You'll get to keep any looted items and experience gained, but there is no save feature nor checkpoints while questing. This is where, with much time invested, if you were unable to get past an area, the fun of the game would diminish rapidly.

So would I recommend it? Yes, but with the above warning intact. There is a brutal side to this game which if tweaked would render it highly enjoyable for the many hours it asks of you.

Anything Geeky Reviewed, 7/10.
Legends of Aethereus is still in early days, and updates will be coming. With a bit of work this game will turn out pretty good. I recommend if you have some spare cash and some friends to play with, you should pick up this game.
