Deus Ex: The Fall Announced for Tablets and Mobile

While most people were probably hoping to see a full-fledged sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution announced, what Deus Ex: The Fall has turned out to be is a spin-off for iPad and iPhone, although I suppose the fact that it looks to be true to the series' gameplay is a small victory. You can check out Deus Ex: The Fall's official announcement trailer, which includes some gold-tinted gameplay.

While we haven't received the official press release yet, EDGE is reporting that the game is developed by studio N-Fusion and not Eidos Montreal, though the studio responsible for Deus Ex: Human Revolution will still be collaborating on the project. I guess this is good news, because it means they still will be able to work on their own, PC and consoles full-fledged sequel.

As for what concerns the story, the game's protagonist is Ben Saxon, a character from the Deus Ex: Icarus Effect tie-in novel, and the story will take place around the same time as the 2011 title, so I imagine we'll get plenty of character cameos and the like.

Overall, this isn't exactly great news, but depending on how it shapes up, Deus Ex fans that own iDevices might end up having another product to look forward to. As for everyone else, I suppose there's always E3 and eventual future announcements.

Update: According to Eidos Montreal's blog the game will be "available soon" for $6.99, and will also eventually come to Android devices:
Deus Ex: The Fall will be available soon for iPad 2, iPhone 4S and iPod Touch 5 and above for the price of $6.99. It is also confirmed for Android devices, but timing is still to be announced.
