Last summer, we asked you to Kickstart our dream of making a fantasy sandbox MMO with a small team and a small budget, working in conjunction with our customer base to make an MMO game unlike any other. You rewarded our vision with over $300,000 to make the Pathfinder Online Technology Demo.
Since then, we have put together our starting team, created the Technology Demo, and released the 96-page Thornkeep book, meeting our three month timeline and our budget. We proved through the Technology Demo that the Goblinworks team has the chops to pull off Pathfinder Online. Our hard work has been recognized. We have secured the financing we need to put the game into production. Thanks to YOU, Pathfinder Online will be a reality!
We want to build Pathfinder Online quicker and with more content than our current financing will allow. Rather than finding additional outside investors to put in additional money, we believe we can reach our funding goals right here, on Kickstarter. We would rather report to you, our customers, than to some investor who is only interested in how quickly they can get a return on their investment. This Kickstarter is all about rallying the community so we can make Pathfinder Online Bigger, Better and Faster than ever!
What is Pathfinder Online?
Pathfinder Online is a hybrid sandbox/theme park-style MMO where characters explore, develop, find adventure and dominate a wilderness frontier in a land of sword and sorcery.
In a sandbox MMO your characters are able to make a persistent impact on the game world. Your characters will be the heroes of legend. Your character's actions will determine how kingdoms rise and fall. They'll drive trade and commerce. They'll explore the world and discover the magic, monsters and adventure that await.
The Pathfinder world is high fantasy in the tradition of epics like The Lord of the Rings, Conan, the Wheel of Time and Game of Thrones.
The Pathfinder setting includes many different classic and modern fantasy elements, from lost cities shrouded in misty jungles to decaying pyramids amidst deserts of burning sands to a fantastic island metropolis where folk from across the world live side by side with all manner of fantastic creatures. Pathfinder Online's robust economy puts players in control with player-created gear, consumables, fortifications, and settlements. Character-controlled settlements can grow into full-fledged kingdoms that compete for resources as they seek to become the dominant force in the land, raising vast armies to hold their territory against the depredations of monstrous creatures, NPC factions, and other player characters.
Social organizations scale from small parties of a few adventurers to player nations inhabited by thousands. As settlements develop, the surrounding wilderness develops more complex and challenging features, including randomly generated encounters and resources as well as exciting scripted adventures.
