Borderlands 2: Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty DLC Reviews

We have rounded up a number of reviews for Borderlands 2's DLC Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty, which so far has garnered a pretty good reception from press and gamers alike.

Destructoid, 8.0/10.
Captain Scarlett's end-game shenanigans notwithstanding, this remains a thorough and thoughtful addendum to Borderlands 2. It's funny and confident in its storytelling and presentation with enough variation in enemy design and mission structure to stand out against the enormous backdrop of the core game.

Get to work.

Eurogamer, 9/10.
In the face of the many things this DLC gets absolutely right, such quibbles are quickly trodden into the sand. This is a vast, generous offering: a true expansion from a developer that obviously cares deeply about its creation, rather than a corporate cash-grab mandated by the boardroom. More please.

VentureBeat, 85/100.
Captain Scarlett and her Pirate's Booty offers almost everything a Borderlands 2 fan might want in their DLC, but it all ends up being a little too expected to truly achieve ground-breaking status. Thankfully, some hilarious new characters and an impressive setting hoist the add-on content up to a level that makes it hard not to recommend to anyone looking for a little bit more of that sweet, sweet loot.

IGN, 7.5/10.
Borderlands 2: Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty delivers exactly what you'd expect: more Borderlands. So long as you're not an overpowered, max-level character you'll find hours of quests to complete, a host of loot to collect and plenty of pirate-themed baddies to send to an early grave. You'll also experience the same shortfalls as the core game, including scarcely utilized vehicles, as well as a comparatively disappointing narrative and more generically designed quests. No, Captain's Booty is not an exceptional follow-up to Borderlands 2, but it is a good piece of content that gives plenty of reasons for anyone to jump back into Pandora.

GameSpot, 7.0/10.
Fortunately, these stumbles won't be a burden as you blast your way through Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty. Though the humor becomes one-note after a while, it's good enough to make you smile as you tangle with anchor-throwing demon pirates. This DLC is a good way to spice up your second playthrough and a fun detour for your first, making it appealing to anyone looking for a fresh way to rake in the badass points.

GamePlanet, 9.0/10.
Captain Scarlett and her Pirate's Booty is what downloadable content ought to be: expansive and apart. It's instantly recognisable, but it experiments with many of the gameplay mechanics players are familiar with. It introduces carefully conceived and thoroughly realised new non-player characters, and provides an encapsulated encounter that any fan of Borderlands 2 would do very well to consider.
