King Arthur: The Role-playing Wargame II Reviews

We have rounded up a new batch of reviews for Paradox and Neocore's Arthurian blend of role-playing and strategy elements, King Arthur: The Role-playing Wargame II, a title that's been greeted by a mixed reception so far.

IGN, 6.0/10.
While it certainly has plenty of missteps, KAII's nods to (or blatant rip-offs from) other classic games make it interesting from a nostalgia perspective. Because the gameplay is so straightforward, newbies to the genre who are nevertheless fans of the setting may find a friendly sort of Frankenstein monster to play with here.

In the end, unfortunately, King Arthur II is not a going to fulfill your love for a mash up of role-playing games and Total War. The game has a very interesting story, units and the artifact/crafting system if you're willing to take the time to explore it. The problem is that this game needs to fix many of its bugs and work out the balance for rewards and AI before I can recommend this to anyone. When they do fix these things, I'll whole heartedly recommend this game. Hardcore Total War players will never be happy because there isn't as much as depth to this game, though, and I agree.

We Got This Covered, 3.5/5.
King Arthur II: The Role-Playing Wargame could have been a great game. However, we're just going to have to settle for a (good) game. Gamers won't necessarily be recalling King Arthur II as one of the classics ten years from now, but it's tough to keep from going back for just one more turn.

Gamedot, 5/10.
As it stands, the game is an exercise in frustration which I can't recommend despite the admirable stream of patches being released. It simply isn't good enough to merit the risk of purchase. Maybe in time, with fixes and price drops, it will be but not yet.
