Dungeon Hunter III Reviews

Since the title may end up on other platforms other then Apple's iOS devices, I thought some of you might be interested in checking out the lukewarm reviews that Gameloft's Dungeon Hunter III has been receiving. Isn't it funny how "free" titles wind up being the most expensive?

Slide to Play gives it a 2/4:
Dungeon Hunter 3 is free, although your time would be much better spent on the previous two games in the series. This only goes to show that Gameloft's current take on the freemium pay model goes against the very nature of the premium console experiences they strive to emulate.

Pocket Gamer gives it a 7/10:
The move to freemium was always going to upset people, and it exposes some of the frailties of the underlying game in a way a premium release wouldn't. The repetitive nature of the combat grates a little more when you're not collecting loot from every slain foe, and the arenas you fight in are often reused.

Appolicious doesn't score it:
The game is fun, but ultimately very shallow and not really worth it. This is another great potential game ruined by the freemium model, in my opinion anyway, and I'd much rather pay for the first two games in the franchise. This game will still keep you entertained for a good while. I just wish they called it something other than "Dungeon Hunter," really. It's iOS Universal and free, so give it a download if you must.

IntoMobile gives it a 3.5/5:
Being a free-to-play title, I can't help but think it silly if I recommend this game or not as you won't lose any money for picking up the game and trying it out. The F2P system doesn't tie down its players to spend their cash on anything as nearly everything can be accessed through good old hard work. And isn't the point of playing a game to.. you know.. actually play it? Dungeon Hunter 3 will keep fans of the previous games entertained for hours, while bringing in a new group of gamers who live, breathe, and eat F2P.

And GameZebo gives it a 3.5/5, as well:
If I had my druthers, Dungeon Hunter 3 would be more like its predecessors, offering meaty exploration and loot to lust after. Nonetheless, Gameloft's new approach comes together admirably, even if the gameplay requires some tightening up. As a freemium option, Dungeon Hunter 3 is definitely worth checking out, but the slow pace and poor targeting make the game more of a bump in the road for the series than a worthy successor.
