Dead Island Reviews

We're in no shortage of reviews for Techland's latest title quite yet, so we rounded up some more about the FPS/RPG hybrid set in a zombie-infested island, Dead Island, for your perusal.

NZGamer, 6.9/10.
Dead Island is not necessarily a bad game, it's just not a very good one either. Its multi-player options will appeal to the hardcore co-op zombie crowd and its disaggregated gameplay elements set it apart from its peers. If you're addicted to zombie titles, and you want something with a little more depth, then it might be worth a rental. But unfortunately it just doesn't live up to its own hype. When making this game, Deep Silver obviously banked on the allure of the undead. That's all well and good, but Dead Island still needs a soul.

GameWit, scoreless.
Despite its myriad problems, (Dead Island) still passes the fun test, particularly if you're playing online with friends. Until Gearbox Software releases (Borderlands 2) next year, it's the best four-player fusion of first-person shooter, open-world adventure and level-grinding role-playing game you're likely to find. You just have to be willing to look past its warts.

St. Cloud Times, scoreless.
There are other niggles, too, like graphics that are a bit behind the times and some random issues (such as showing console controller instructions in the PC version of the game), but for the most part these shortcomings don't add up to much.

Quite simply, (Dead Island) is a deadly good time.

Keystone Online, scoreless.
Dead Island is the first release of note from Techland and it will definitely help put a spotlight on games they release in the future. It is a great game despite being very frustrating and chances are you'll quit a couple of times before you can finally buckle down with the patience to beat this game.
