DeathSpank: The Baconing Reviews

We have rounded up a few new reviews, this time all positive, for DeathSpank's latest humorous hack'n'slash adventure, The Baconing, available on XBLA, PSN and PC.

Stuff, 7/10.
If you haven't already delved into the Deathspank universe, The Baconing is definitely worth checking out for its humour and zany cartoony feel. However, those already familiar with Spanktopia should be advised that they have already played this game, it just went by a different name.

Popzara, "Yay".
If you've got some spare digital cash and are itching to embark on yet another chicken-filled, justice-y adventure, The Baconing is certainly an acceptable choice; however, if you've conquered evil as this simpleton hero before, you might want to bark up a different tree, unless you're just dead set on ridding the world of the most powerful multicolored thongs the world has ever seen. If DeathSpank is ever summoned forth again, let's hope his development team sees fit to shake things up a bit...or at least letting him change his underwear.

The Digital Fix, 7/10.
The Baconing likes to make a lot of meta-references to other games in the genres it apes, poking fun at the somewhat silly conventions they have while trying not to copy them itself, so I guess it's fitting that it flips the tradition of having the best bit of a game at the start, and instead leaves it until the last couple of hours to get really good. I can't hand-on-heart recommend this game as some of the earlier levels left me in fits of rage over how unfair the combat was, but I'm certainly intrigued to see where Hothead Games take the series next.
