Dead State Design Update

In this week's design update over on the official Dead State forums, DoubleBear's Brian Mitsoda briefly describes the game's survival skill before testing our own survival knowledge. Will you survive the zombie apocalypse?
As you may know, Dead State's Survival skill is an abstract skill representing the sum total of a character's survival training. This ranges from identifying edible plants to navigating wilderness quickly to being aware of your surroundings. If you've ever hiked, gardened, or camped, you may have learned some of the necessary skills for surviving in the wilderness. But, when it comes to navigating the urban jungle or wilderness, some people might be a little overconfident of their chances of survival. Here's a couple of questions to ask yourself regarding personal preparation and knowledge in case of an emergency:

-Do you know the location and route to your nearest hospital or medical clinic?

-Do you have a week's worth of food, batteries (for flashlights), water, medicine, a can opener, a source of heat, and a radio?

-Do you know how to make water safe for drinking?

-Do you know how to start a fire without a lighter?

-Do you have a map of your area?

-Do you know of at least five wild plants that are edible?

-How much fuel do you have in your car's tank or accessible right now?

-Where is the closest military base to you?

-Where is the nearest airstrip to you?

-Do you know how to navigate by sun, stars, landmarks, compasses, and plant growth?

-Do you have access to a pocket-size basic survival handbook?
