Venetica Reviews

The reviews for Deck 13's Venetica seem to be pretty mixed, as demonstrated by this latest trio to reach the 'net.

Joystiq gives it a 2/5:
Venetica contains hints of a compelling quest but feels like its development life was cut short. The end result is a potentially grand concept that just can't flourish within its forced, generic confines. Functional yet capable of so much more, death's daughter just doesn't die up to her full potential.

Diehard GameFAN gives it a verdict of "Enjoyable Game!":
Venetica is a fun little budget action RPG. It's not the prettiest, but it offers a lot of character customization, a very large open world to play in, and an interesting story to keep you hooked while you run through a ton of subquests. It has a very old school 1st Edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons feel, right down to having to learn skills from mentors rather than spontaneously being able to unleash arcane forces upon your enemy. It's definitely not for a gamer that needs their hand held, but If you like games like Morrowind, Dark Alliance or other action RPGs of that nature, you'll definitely get your $39.99 worth out of Venetica.

And then GamingBolt gives it a 6.0/10:
This game is glitchy and full of bugs. I was inside walls, unable to climb down ladders, stuck in random spots, seeing random items float in mid air. Thankfully, I was able to complete the game though with out a game ruining bug. Venetica however is not all that bad, especially if you can get past the graphics which although not quite up to par with other games, the scenery is nice to see at time being placed in Venice, but for instance don't come anywhere near the Venice seen in Assassin's Creed II. As Scarlett is the only hope to stop Death himself in the game, it makes for a descent action RPG. That is of course if you can get past the cons mentioned above. If you are the type of gamer that only plays the Fable series and maybe one other title you might want to check this out otherwise you should pass on this one as your time could be spent playing something better.
