To add Liara to your squad, you'll first have to rescue her from the dig site on Therum. Because she follows the Adept class closely, Liara makes a good choice as a member of your squad if you're looking for extra support from biotic talents. The asari are able to mate with any other race or gender, making her one of two possible romance options if you're playing either a male or female Commander Shepard.
