Based upon the novel by Sergey Lukyanenko and Nikolay Perumov, A Farewell to Dragons is a party-based action-RPG released in 2009. The game, published by 1C Company, is set in a fantasy/steampunk setting, and revolves around the hero Victor, who is accompanied by a suave sorceress named Telle, with eight additional companions throughout the game. The game features both high fantasty elements like magic, swords and other mainstays, as well as firearms, steam trains and so forth.
Combat in A Farewell to Dragons takes primarily from CRPGs like Baldur’s Gate, featuring a now-classic real-time with pause combat system and management of up to six party members. The player’s spells rise and fall in their power based on the time of day; the player must use these spells intelligently given those limitations and advantages, allowing for some extra combat depth and flavor not typically seen in the genre.
