I would suggest investing some points into the arms tree first to improve your damage. Then as climb up in levels you might want to invest 15 points or so in the protection tree, much more is not really needed. Being a tank is mostly about having the gear to tack, which basically mean having as much +defence skill and hp as possible.

Don't worry too much about it. You can respect your talents later (for 5g tho), so I suggest putting your points into what ever you think suits your warrior.

Like Gara said you can tank in most instances with 15 points in protection, its only the high level raid dungeons which may require more.

Most people like to go for a mainly arms build to get Mortal Strike (instance attack which can crit for massive damage with the right weapon) but I've heard good things from the fury dual wield build but never tried it.

Check out the warrior forums on the WoW site for more info. The guys there have debated much on the subject of talents.

Not a single warrior in my guild has more than 15 points in protectan and we've cleared up to chrommaggus in BWL. Most have a Mortal Strike build with the extra 15 points in protection. The only other talent that might be worth it is shield slam, but that the last skill in the tree and getting there will make you loose alot of talents in arms that could have been used to up your damage (and hence aggro).

The protection tree makes for an excellent warrior under all circumstances, however, you'll have to contend with being mostly a support warrior.

In PvE you'll make an excellent tank, improved taunts, sundering and sheild bashing and revenge make tanking VERY easy, but the fact is, it's more then possable to tank quite well without spending more in this tree.

In PvP, you'll make a wounderful back up warrior, the defence stance giving you beautiful powers like stuns, disarms, cheap sunders and sheild blocking, bashing and slaming. However, 1v1, you don't do a lot of dammage, and your cool de-buffs are annoying at best... If your not with a group, you'll have to be carful.
