Need help w/ Warrior talents (specifications within)

Okay, here's what we got:

- lvl 49 Dwarf Warrior (You saw it coming, didn't ya? )

- Staghelm server (Normal); playing style is PvE predominant.

- Prefered equipment style is 1-handed axe and shield, and (as you may guess) wearing plate armor. Wil use a 2h axe in a pinch. Specified in Arms talents.

- Talent Points used so far:
Arms: Deflection 5/5, Improved Rend 3/3, Tactical Mastery 5/5, Improved Overpower 2/2, Deep Wounds 3/3, Impale 2/2, Axe Mastery 5/5, Sweeping Strikes 1/1; 26 Talent Points total

Fury: N/A

Protection: Shield Specialization 5/5, Toughness 5/5; 10 Talent Points total

36 talents points used total. I got 4 to use up, and plan to take 'Mortal Strike' (which requires 30 points in Arms). Honestly, I don't know which to go with for my current 4 to use. I was thinking about 'Anger Management' & 'Improved Hamstring,' since I don't really care to use 2-handed axes & pump up '2-Handed Weapon Proficiency.'

'Improved Heroic Strike' & 'Improved Thunderclap' both seem useless since they only decrease rage cost by one point per talent point. 'Improved Charge' is questionable, but I've heard some people in the game say it's useless.

The folks in my guild (Ex Infernum) have helped me alot in the past, but they really can't seem to with this; I'm pretty much the most active Warrior in the guild.

Can anyone help me? I DO NOT want to recycle my talents, since it does cost gold to do so.

Many of my warrior friends go with a 31/5/15 build. Something like this might be what you are looking for. I haven't played warrior past level 20 so I'm by no means an expert but if I was to talent a warrior, that talent combination is what I would have used.

Thumbs up Any help is better than none.

Yeah, I'm mostly planning on 31 points in Arms. I also tend to make good use of the talent calculator (on the American site, as you also may have guessed. )

I'd say that's pretty much on the right track ( ), then, although I'm definitely sticking w/ the other points I have so far, and maybe going with 10 points in Fury: 5 in 'Cruelty' (as noticed by your link, and agrees with my previous & unmentioned thoughts) and probably 5 in 'Improved Demoralizing Shout.' I'd like to cause some serious damage & reduce the amount that comes my way, especially since I use 'Demoralizing Shout' with virtually every fight. Either that, or I might go with Anticipation.

Sometimes, I seem to just go from encounter to encounter, (killing one enemy, then charging another), so how much I would make use of 'Defiance' is questionable.

Overall, I'd say you helped decently, garazdawai. Thanks.

Indeed, defiance would only be helpful when you are doing instances with a group of people, when solo grinding it has no use what so ever.

Well, I do instances (my current favorites being the Scarlet Monastery Cathedral & Uldaman) when I can, but I still do a lot of solo questing regardless (sometimes with a few people on board who need help or visa-versa).

I would think that Imp. Demoralizing Shout could also help w/ tanking by reducing the amount of damage everyone in the group (me included) take from enemies.

an MS(mortal Strike) warrior can basically tank everything untill the high-end instances (Molten Core etc) so that's definetly a good way to go since you'll deal massive damage as well when you are soloing or pvp'ing

Question Assessing Warrior talents as of patch 2.0.1

Well, as we all know, the new talent trees are in effect.

The thing is, I'm not quite sure what to go with now.

The best thing I could think of was the go with Protection spec, and go like this:

Protection Tree
- 5 points in Anticipation (+15 Defense)
- 2 points in Improved Bloodrage (Extra rage via Bloodrage)
- 3 points in Tactical Mastery (15 rage when I change my warrior's stance)
- 5 points in Toughness (+10% armor for the win!)
- 3 points in Shield Specialization
- 1 point in Last Stand
- 3 points in Improved Revenge
- 3 points in Defiance
- 2 points in Improved Taunt
- 1 point in Concussion Blow
- 2 points in Improved Shield Bash
- 3 points in Shield Mastery
- 5 points in One-handed weapon specialization
- 3 points in Improved Defensive Stance
- 1 point in Shield Slam
- 5 points in Vitality (Because +10% Strength and +5% Stamina sounds helpful, especially if your initial numbers are high)
- 1 point in Devastate (A recharge to Sunder Armor PLUS increased threat at half your weapon damage plus 15? Why not?)

Fury: N/A

Arms: 5 points in Deflection

Here's a link for my supposed new talent build for Traegar: here.

Does this sound like it would work for tanking PvE and raiding?

Seems like it. I have no high level warrior, though.

Still, it is a protection build which is the tanking tree (which is, as you probably know, excellent for group PvE and raiding). If you want to be a tank in the hardest instances you probably want to be able to get aggro, keep it and improve your survivability as much as you can (so I assume).

Here's one I've made. Remember I may know less about the warrior class than you. I've focused on threat and damage reduction. I removed tactical mastery as I assume tanks will want to stay in defensive stance.

Wowhead BC Talent Calculator

Defensive talents: Anticipation, Toughness, Shield Spec., Shield Wall, Shield Mastery, Imp. Defensive Stance, Vitality

Aggro and rage talents: Defiance, Improved Taunt, Shield Slam, Focused Rage, Vitality (again), Devastate

The remaining talents help increase aggro, rage and/or defence. Sunder Armour, for example, is a very important warrior ability. And with Imp. Sunder Armour you can use it more often (or keep rage for damage abilities which also help you keep aggro).

Anyway, this may or may not be a better build than yours. You can always look and ask around the official warrior forums.

-edit- In general I have chosen for specific tanking talents like taunt and defiance. One handed weapon spec is probably less important as you don't care how much damage you do as long as you survive and keep aggro (then again, more damage = more aggro). Last Stand (to name another) is something you probably cannot rely on in a long boss fight.
