help needed please!!!!!!!

I am new at this game . When I got it there was no book to tell me what
buttons do what. i figured out some but i cant figure out what to push to up my stats.I have plenty of points to spend and cant so can anyone tell me how to up them please.

If you want some info on spells, walkthroughs can be good. The manual is really really short, and contains only basic keybinding info. You can check out this page http://faqs.ign.com/articles/393/393815p1.html and just try not to read past the walkthrough. Lot's of info on some of the best spells. Or try searching for other walkthroughs.

Key Bindings:

Left Click -- Walk, Talk, Fight, or Pick UP
Left Click + Alt -- Fire at Ground
Left Click + Ctrl -- Party Attack
Hold Left Click -- Auto Attack
Right Click -- Use Discipline or held Scroll. Store Item back into inventory
Right Click + Space -- Use While Stationary
Thrid Mouse Button == Shift + Left Click -- Alternative attack/Force Run
F -- Set Feed as current Discipline
C -- Display/Hide Character panel
Q -- Display/Hide Quest panel
D -- Display/Hide Disciplines panel
M -- Display Map
I -- Display/Hide Inventory panel
ESC -- Menu/Save/Pause/Abort conversation/Exit Shop or Converstaion bar
Tab -- Alternate through coterie characters
Space -- Cancel last command for coterie member (useful when walking around with something in your hand) / Skip conversation line
BackSpace -- Hide all panels
F11 -- Show/Hide main panel
F12 -- Take screenshot, saved in installation directory
F1-F5 -- Use items 1-5 in quick items
F6-F9 -- Select coterie member 1-4 (Christof is F6)
1-6 -- Select Current discipline from 1-6 of quick disciplines
+/- -- Zoom Camera
R -- Regroup Coterie (all AI reenabled)
G -- Disable AI of curent Coterie member
Holding Z -- View in first person
X -- Swivel View Toggle
Space+Left Click -- Turn in place
To de-stake a coterie member, left click on them while controlling another member.
To take money out of inventory, left click on gold amount in inventory and it will drop to the floor.

Multiplayer Key Bindings:

Enter -- Talk
\ -- Toggle StoryTeller mode
P -- Toggle StoryTeller possession
A -- Toggle StoryTeller Actor Panel
O -- Toggle StoryTeller Object Panel
V -- Toggle StoryTeller Controls Panel
L -- Toggle StoryTeller Locations Panel
S -- Toggle StoryTeller Scenes Panel
Emote Commands: Type "wave", "bow", "menace", etc, in talk prompt
PageUp/PageDown -- Scroll text display
Place Story Teller Head: Right click on target position
Jump to Location in Story Teller mode: Alt+Right Click

you can only spend your points (if I recall) while at your bed/coffin, try doubleclicking.

that is correct, you must be resting to spend points
