Heightened Senses/Vampiric Senses

Does anyone know what your character actually gains from increased Vampiric Senses? I've now finished the game and I found a number of items that increased vampiric senses yet never actually noticed any difference when they were worn by Christoff.

You can see invisible stuff like hidden doors and Nosferatu. The monocle is very handy in the New York sewers.

Ah ok. That makes sense. I never actually noticed a difference but thats probably because he wore the monocle for a long time
