Sabbat Stronghold Help

I am in the ballroom, right after they killed my ghoul. The blue energy beams come down from the ceiling and make the oil cans with the fires in them to make a small explosion. I went up and shot the guy that was behind the blue force field and he's now dead. The beams and force field are still there and causing explosions. I have searched everywhere in the room and cannot find any switches or keys. I have tried the one door on the left but it shows it's locked. How do I get out of this room? I also tried going back over the bar and back into the room my ghoul was killed in (at the expense of getting burned), and didn't see anything in there either. Any help would be appreciated.
btw...This is at the Hallowbrook Hotel in Downtown. Thanks!

after you kill the guy behind the force field .. a door should open on the ground floor of that room.. looking down from the top of the stairs, its on the right side..

I did kill him but the blue force field and the energy beams are still coming down from the ceiling randomly. Must be a bug in the game then. I guess I'll have to go back to a previous save and try it again. I am guessing that maybe the way I killed him wasn't supposed to have worked. I shot at him from the left side of the upper level out of range of the explosions and he just kept making that "throwing something at the ground" movement, until I killed him. Then his body was lying there for awhile as the blue stuff kept on happening. Weird!

- i dunno then..

- i killed him by jumping over the barrels and crap and getting right under him .. a little to the left/right and shooting him that way

edit :

- while he is alive, you cant get up ther stairs .. after you kill him you can get up the stairs .. all the blue stuff is gone

Ok, then it must be a bug. The flames died down and I ran up the stairs before they came back up again. Then I shot him. I 'll start over again and try it from below this time and see what happens. Thanks!

(not like there are any bugs in this game at all. I must have talked to Barabus about 20 times at the end of the Fu Syndicate before the idiot went up the elevator...lol).
