Help with Gargoyle quest *possible spoiler*

Hi!

Is there any way to tell Isaac about who created the gargoyle without losing the possibility to access the Chantry (in the walkthrough it says this is possible but I haven't managed to do so...)

Cheers!

I'm assuming from your post that your playing as a Tremere and you want the second haven. The only way I could think of doing it would be to go and see Straus first and get the reward off him then go and see Isaac. However if I were you I'd save my game prior to telling Isaac just in case yoyu lose your haven or something. Also if your going for the Camarilla ending I don't think you can get it if you tell Isaac Straus's secret. Not 100% sure about that though.

I'm not a Tremere, I only want to keep the option for a Camarilla ending open... I have tried to get the money from Strauss first and then telling Isaac, but it didn't work: the Chantry was closed to me afterwards.

I was referring to the walkthrough:

As a side note, you can also keep the secret until the Gargoyle is dealt with, get the $500 reward from Strauss, and then still go back and tell Isaac about the Gargoyle's creation for two points of Experience. If you reveal Strauss' secret this way, you apparently won't be banned from the chantry.
Any help? I wouldn't mind the 2 XP from Isaac...

I believe the walkthrough was written before the patch. That bit of cheese was probably fixed in 1.2, so if you tell Abrams who made the gargoyle, you'll lose access to the Chantry, even if your get Strauss' reward first.

Nah, it's not worth it, the Cam ending was easily the best one.. As in, turns out best for you in the end.
Anyway, what is 2xp gonna get you? Just keep going and do the next few quests and you'll net at least 2 more somewhere in bewteen here and the end anyway.

Why bother?

Only the Anarch ending allows me to be true to myself...

OK, so Strauss is a bit like Morpheus, but he keeps calling me 'mate' which doesn't sound right coming from him.

As the Camarilla is an 'open' society, even if you choose the Anarchs, you can always return, say in 100 years or so.

I'd rather get the points from Isaac and not have the likes of LaCroix rising to the top. Nines saves you from the Sabbat and Jack gives you basic Vampire lore/training - taking that into account, I reckon that you owe the Anarchs for that, whereas LaCroix represents the Cam and they have done nothing to curb his excesses and have to take vicarious responsibility for his actions.

The Anarchs treat you decently throughout, so for me, there is no other faction I would side with. Even a Lone Wolf needs a pack...

I think you mean 'neonate'.

Ok, so don't side with Lacroix. Side with the Camarilla.

corrected

"neonate" sounded like "me ol' mate" - an expression common around the London area (as in "my old mate") - sounded odd. found myself a Mondegreen!

as for the Camarilla - my point was that because the Camarilla did not appear to do anything to curb the excesses of Lacroix - their representative, they have what is called 'vicarious liability' for his actions. it is all very well to say that Strauss is the acceptable face of the Camarilla, but the organisation as a whole must take responsibility for its officers - that is how responsibility works. LaCroix has been promoted above his capacity and the failure of the Camarilla to deal with him undermines my faith in the organisation to the extent that I anticipate that other a-holes will have risen to positions of responsibility elsewhere and be equally unchecked. In game terms, and I restrict myself to the game, not to Anne Rice, films, other RPG etc, the Anarchs are clearly best suited to many players and are the only credible end-game contender.

LaCroix shows his nature throughout -he's an idiot
Camarilla are irresponsible (LaCroix and Strauss's gargoyle)
hui-jin are dishonest and want to kill the Kindred (Ming sponsors the FU research)
the Anarchs are straight and help the character
Lone Wolf - OK, but there is no need to be alone.

The interesting thing about Bloodlines is that, for the most part, I found myself agreeing with Celacena that the Anarchs are the only credible end game contenders. LaCroix is certainly not a shining representation of the Camarilla; but, then again, Tung and Strauss aren't shining beacons of light either (Strauss at least is, moreorless, straight with the main character. He's not portrayed in a way that makes you overly fond of him, though). The Kuei-Jin are out to kill you (they are behind the Fu Corporation and it can be implied the shapeshifter was their doing). It's only the Anarchs who seem to be interested in helping you; Nines and Jack (who has some ulterior motives, we learn, but he still helps you in significant ways throughout the game) aid the main character signfiicantly throughout the game, and, generally, play it straight with the character. It's for that reason during my first play through that I had trouble imagining my character being sympathetic to any other cause.

That said, as a fan of the pnp White Wolf genre, I found this interesting. In the campaigns I have been part of, the Camarilla was always the entity that my character (or characters in the campaign) fell under. While, Bloodlines certainly gave me new respect for certain Anarch fringes (in the pnp the Anarchs often come across as disorganized, territorial rabble), it would have been nice for it to have given me more solid reasons to be sympathetic toward Camarilla interests in the end game.
