Did you turn down the specs on your video card? I don't mean the in game specs, I'm talking about actually going into your video card settings and turning down all of the graphical details it can have to speed up performance?

Play D&D online, 3rd edition, 4th edition, or any pen and paper game.

Ok, but that doesn't answer my question. Did you turn down the specs on your card? You know how video games say "turning this feature off will reduce graphical quality but may increase performance?" Did you do that with settings on your video card.

You might try reinstalling, usually a quick and easy fix. As for your characters, search around this forum and you'll find a few programs that'll restore your characters (so they don't get bugged and stop working on the reinstall).

Also...make sure that your resolution that you have the game set to also jives with what your monitor can handle. Some monitors (often wide screen ones) have resolutions that seem to look fine when looking at the desktop, but when you pull up something with some text, it looks like crap.
