you are right Ashen, Melee characters are easily the hardest way to play the game, nearly the exact opposite from Diablo 2 where melee would be the easiest.

But yeah, Ternion Attack with an Earth Enchantment = Super uber broken glide through the game exploit.

Oh yes I agree. I guess I can see how some may want to run through it in a way and I may even do so if I decide to play it at some later date the second time but right now the fact that I really have to plan ahead and struggle with some bosses makes it kind of worth while and interesting.

i'm not sure melee is necessarily harder, its just a lot more item dependant. So if you make another character first to twink it out it can be just as easy or more so perhaps, but it does require the right stuff. I don't have the top tier legendary stuff yet but i gave my assassin just about all blue and then all purple as soon as he could use it (around lvl 20ish) and he didn't have his first death until the firebull in act 3 (epic) caught him at a bad time. he is only 42 now (and still has only one death) so still a lot of legendary to conquor, but with the right gear... its no threat

Well I don't really agree. I've tried playing the other combos first, and it gets ridiculous after a while, no challenge whatsoever! With a strictly melee one, you really need to work on it. I agree about it being item dependent, but that's only partially, and it is logical when we speak of melee types.

That's the problem with Melee, is the items and dependancy. With ternion, you could get a staff from act one and sail through to Epic, but with melee, you need a constant focus on items.

I picked up a staff that I got from the very first satyr boss in act one, kicked Typhon's arse with it, the staff's base damage was somethin like 4 fire damage. With my intelligence, ternion, and earth enchantment, I got the damage up to about 150 per second, and with the battle marker shrine easily available when fighting Typhon, he went down quicker than carrot top not being funny.

Siberys I made that spirit/earth build you suggested I'm at lvl 8 right now and i have maxed terrion, and im just a little confused about the earth spells

Should i max earth enchantment, or brimstone, or both? If so which one first.

Also why did you say to max heat shield.....it dosnt seem very great.

THANK YOU!

Ehh...not heat shield, the other one. Ring of Flame I believe is what it's called.

But yeah, Max out Ternion, Max out earth enchantment and Brimstone, and then finally, work on Ring of flame as well as a pet from either area. Lich king or the fire one, whatever it's called.

1 More question!

What atribute points would increase my Ternion damage. (ive been pumping int because it uses a staff, but now im confused because these earth skills increase physical damage, so im thinking that ternion is physical damage, so maybe strength increases the damage)

Also this is offtopic, but is there any plans (say in an expansion) of having a closed battle.net type multiplayer?

I dont think this game can be on the same level as diablo 2: LOD without a solid multiplayer

No, Ternion and all staves do intelligence based damage. They call it physical damage even though it's from a staff, as ternion only works with a staff, meaning intelligence will in turn, pump Ternion up as well.

i have two characters that i go back and forth play (one is strickly for when i play with a friend).

got a lv 17 hunter/rogue (only rogue talents i've got is the ones that add poison dmg or bleed dmg) and a lv 19 earth/spirit.

betweent the two, the hunter has a harder time with the game, simply because it takes so long before either mastery gets some type of AoE. and we all know this game is a fan of zerging. my caster just walks through the game since lv 1. not one death, and the only reason i get close to dying is because i like to run in and pull 3-4 groups before dishing out firey death and life leaching. btw, i tried (1 point) in Ternion (sp) and it seems to only shoot 1 beam. does it just make the 1 attack three times as strong? (before the -dmg or +dmg modifier from more points into the skill?) or am i supposed to be seeing three bolts from the staff?

my caster has a few points in earth enhancement and a few in it's secondary buff. got the lava pet and the lich, dark covonant, life leach, and a few points in each aura on the spirit side. i'm also putting most of my points into increasing the mastery itself so i can get the higher tier'd skills from it. think i have 26 in earth and around 16 in spirit. i haven't maxed one skill out yet, and still think the game is a joke, but i never get tired of laughing as volcanic orb sends all those little micemen flying across my screen lol.

I'm an Assasin :P Rogue + Warfare

Dual weapons, poinson damage, bleeding damage, they all kick ass
I'm currently at level 27 and givin about 170 damage, about 160 per second
plus the Lethal Strike at max level (500% damage hit)

It's sort a hit & run moves, but they are also efective against large hords.
The trowing knives, also do lots of bleeding damage and poinson damage, (most of the times i just kill about 5 or 6 enemies with one trow.

It's truly a powerfull mix.

...

alrightie

that movie was awesome btw

but i play conqueror (defender/warfarew) and i dont think i will pull that off in 2:10 :P

anyway , i play mainly with shield charge , and shield batter (i am main defender)

i have equip that enhances % strength and % health mostly , but could use some improvements ...

i am lvl 32 now and just killed typhon on normal difficulty , i died once by the flame spray , other than that , i have only 2 death in the entire first difficulty (and the other one was because i was paying attention to the TV and when i looked back at screen had 5 % hp left )

i am curious how i will do in epic difficulty , but so far no problems , and i dont even use that many potions (obviously more than casters, but normal for melee)...

hope i can inspire some ppl to go melee, its not as hard as some might think !

I think that playing melee gives more of a chalenge later on than just blasting through the game with spells and such. So i have two different melee characters, one assasin (warfare + rogue) and my personal favorite, a guardian (defense + Nature)

My Characters

I have a lvl 65 Conjuer ( earth/spirit) and have very few problems ever , she has 3 deaths so far and thats from not paying attention. She is a very powerful build , and not very item dependant. anything that adds int with elemental dmg will bring your attack sky high. I highly recomend this build for Item hunters especialy for quick farming runs. Im currently working on an Orracle ( Storm/Sprit) she is lvl 32 and hasnt died yet. She seems to be a very powerful build as well. Trenion and stom nimbus combined are truly deadly. Same with eath enchantment and trunion.
