Oblivion is not one of those games that you really ever finish. I mean sure you can finish the main quest, but the game doesn't stop. You can just keep playing and doing other quests, or just walking around exploring and killing the bad guys.

If you just want to quickly finish the main quest you can follow this Speedrun: Oblivion beaten in 11 minutes -Destructoid, it does require the use of some exploits. Otherwise, you just have to do the missions in order.

Do you really think that was 'beating' the main quest? (serious question, not having a dig) That was just some idiot with too much time on his hands showing that if you know the glitches in the game you can jump straight to the end. Pointless exercise in futility.

However it is easy to 'beat' the main quest in a few hours if you're only doing that quest and not others; and that's without cheating or exploiting any glitches. Something I'm actually doing at the moment to set up the Servants of the Dawn mod. I've been playing for just under an hour and a half and should finish within the next hour and a half fairly easily. One of the main flaws in the game is how paltry the main quest is; something I'm hoping they'll fix in Skyrim.

Well, I'm just answering the question. Yes it're really not playing through the main quest, but kind of using a glitch to go straight to the end. I wouldn't do it.
I was just assuming that that is what the OP wanted. Otherwise the only other way to beat the main quest is to play it mission by mission. Which I also gave as an option.
